my dream best friend.

Part of the appeal of the female celebs we all love, is that we all are first to declare--

IF SHE KNEW ME, WE WOULD BE BEST FRIENDS.

Mindy Kaling? DUH.

J. Law? No Brainer.

T.Swift? #squadgoals to the max. count me in for your next video.

It'll likely never happen but we need everyone to know what level of cool we are on.

Another one at the top of my celeb bff list is my girl Anna Kendrick. After seeing her in Pitch Perfect 2 last weekend, where she totally #crushedit {in the words of Fat Amy}-- I was reminded once again was a bad ass pitch she is. Okay I'm done, the puns will stop now.

Amazing singer, incredible actress, professional lip syncer (yes I was there for that episode of #LipSyncBattle and yes she's that tiny in real life), and above all hilarious tweeter.

Here are some my favorite tweets because it seems Anna Kendrick just really gets me.

If you don't follow her on Twitter- do so right MEOW.

oh and follow me too because Anna and I are basically besties and I'm hysterical.

HOW DARE YOU?

So it's fair to say that Mindy Kaling is a personal hero of mine. My blog only has a handful of posts and she's referenced in at least a third of them. After her book came out she became widely popular but I'd like to note that I've loved her since The Office.

One of my favorite Kelly Kapoor moments came in season 4 when her on-again off-again bf Ryan returns to Scranton with his fancy new corporate job and pretends she doesn't even exist.  So when he asks if anyone has anyone questions, she uttered these powerful words- How Dare You?

Now 4 years later on The Mindy Project, Mindy has continued to use the dramatic and hilariously phrase. Which leads to me my weekly rant where I get to air some of my grievances asking the simple question, a la Mindy, How dare you?

- to all slow walking people on the streets of New York, especially those who feel the need to take up the whole side walk

 - when cab drivers that take you through Times Square

- people who think their time is more valuable than yours

- people who just "don't really watch tv" [I just don't understand that]

- Brunches that aren't bottomless

Have something to get off your chest or someone you are dying to tell off? Share your "how dare you?" moments in the comments.

--hope everyone survives the rest of this week--

man crush monday

#MCM. We've all seen it on Instagram, Twitter, etc. Whether it's our friends with boyfriends who post every week- we get it you're in love, whatever. Or, it's the single ladies {thanks Bey for making this cool} like myself who may or may not post a picture of shirtless Zac Efron or a scruffy Jimmy Fallon every once in a while. Either way it's a post dedicated to that special person whose caught your eye whether they know you exist or not.

So I've decided to dedicate a weekly post to my favorite on-screen fellas and their actor counter parts. From leading men, to adorable side kicks, they've all greatly raised the expectations for my future love interests to inevitably fail to meet.

My first choice is a no-brainer.

Daniel Castellano.

Starting off as a lovable jerk, he's turned into a smoking hot kermudgen who has some sick dance moves and wears adorable red reading glasses. His relationship with Mindy this season has been hilarious to watch-- here's to hoping there isn't another breakup in the near future.

But let's just let Danny speak for himself.

Thank you Mindy Kaling. Just thank you.

Everyone should watch The Mindy Project Tuesdays at 9:30 on Fox. Do it and thank me later.

-Jess

ps- Chris Messina isn't so bad himself-- check him out in some awesome indies, Celeste and Jesse Forever, The Giant Mechanical Man, and Ira & Abby.

falling in love in the fall....

Well I'm back.

After a long, life-changing and fabulous year I've decided to get back to blogging. Redesigned (to the best of my ability) and renamed-- I'm back. Mainly because I love TV and writing but mostly because my sweet family and friends start tuning me out when I talking pop culture for too long #sorrynotsorry.

And there's no better time than now with the fall TV season FINALLY starting back up. Thank dog. It's been a long summer full of my guiltiest pleasure- Big Brother, binge watching too many shows to count (shout to Bridget Ryan for finally for getting me to watch Orphan Black-- too good) and rewatching my favorites (West Wing for the umpteenth time anyone?).

Now my shows are back and I'm so ready-- The Mindy Project, Scandal, Parenthood, the list goes on and on, but the real question I ponder every fall is what new shows to introduce to my weekly lineup.
Duh I watch way too many shows-- so I try to only give one new show a chance each new season. Two years ago it was Mindy, last year it was BK 99, both choices I fully stand by. This year, however, there are too many good choices so here's a look at my intrigue list:

{for sure watching}
#TGIT. Shonda is queen.
Shonda + Viola Davis + hour long drama = I'm sold.
Shondaland Thursdays will be a new staple and I'm not mad about it.
Thursdays at 10:00 EST on ABC

{giving it a chance}
The Mindy Project is pure gold brought the rom-com to the small screen in such a great way. A-Z is following in Mindy's always fashionable footsteps with The Mother from HIMYM and Ben Feldman and it looks adorable- I'm really hoping this is good.
Premieres Thursday 10/2 at 9:30 EST on NBC

From the creator of Happy Endings comes the second coming of Penny Hart- I hope. Add in the wonderful Ken Marino (Party Down forever)- fingers crossed this is Ah-mah-zing.
Premieres Tuesday 10/14 at 9:00 EST on NBC

{praying the critics are wrong}
I want this show to be good so badly but it is getting such terrible reviews. That being said, I will give this show a chance because it's John Mulaney and he created Stefon and his stand up is hilarious and of course- Nasim Pedrad and Martin Short.
Premieres Sunday 10/5 at 9:30 EST on Fox

Check back in a couple of weeks to see how these new shows are fairing.

Happy watching!

say it ain't so

I’m still in shock over the horrible, shocking, DEVASTATING revelation on last night's summer finale of Pretty Little Liars.
In typical PLL fashion the last minute of the episode left viewers with our favorite teacher trading in his signature vest for an all black ensemble bursting into A's/his classy new lair in a fit of rage.  But what was he so angry about?

This is by far the {biggest reveal yet} and since I’ve been #teamezria since the pilot, I took this one pretty hard.
I’ve gone over it in my head and discussed with my closet PLL confidants and I think it comes down to two options.

Either Marlene King, creator/writer/producer/director, aka Queen of all things PLL, is pulling our leg once again.  Ezra can’t be A!?!?

-Or-

The world as we know it is over. Dear ol’ Mr. Fitz has been playing us (and Aria) from the beginning.

So let me break down our two possibilities:
Option 1:

If she’s done it once, what’s stopping her from doing it again?  Remember when gasps echoed across the world as Toby turned around to reveal himself as a part of the evil A Team. And then he was dead for like 4 episodes?? LIES ALL LIES! Of course Toby was just trying to protect his lover Spencer and her friends from the torturing menace that is Mona and the head honcho herself, Red Coat (aka Cece Drake)

[SIDE BAR: Is anyone else furious that once again these pretty little liars let someone else get away.  It's Rosewood ladies, let’s not assume anyone is dead just because they fall from a high place (See Ian Thomas and the Bell Tower)]
So we can hope that maybe this is the case once again. Ezra loves Aria, as we’ve seen time and time again, so it’s hard to imagine he’s been after her and her friends all along.

Option 2:
It is very curious that Ezra entered Rosewood just around the same time that our 4 ladies began getting texts from the mysterious “A.” Also, Mr. Fitz has been seemingly absent from some of the girl’s most traumatizing events, i.e. the Halloween Train, the fire, the bell tower. Plus, let's be real- it's not like he's against breaking the law (hello! slept.with.his.student) Some may also argue that Aria has gotten off easy when it comes to A.  She was locked in a box with a dead guy but the rest of the girls have endured some serious physical and psychological damage.

[SIDE BAR: I did read an interesting theory on Twitter last night that alluded to Aria and Ezra being a Bonnie and Clyde esque evil team.  It’s kind of hard to imagine but wouldn’t that be a rich twist.]

Other things/people to consider: Shauna/Jenna/Wren/Melissa/Malcom
How do all of those people fit into this new development?

Honestly when it comes to PLL you never know who to trust or what to believe so now it’s time to wait until the epic Halloween episode and winter season in January.

I’ll leave you with this,
Nothing is ever as it seems in Rosewood.

triple threat

I read a book last Christmas called "Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns)" that changed my life.  Okay, that might be is a dramatic overstatement but it was a seriously hilarious and inspiring book.  The book is the story of Mindy Kaling who I believe is the ultimate triple threat.  Now in the entertainment world most people consider a triple threat to be someone who can act, dance and sing but I think that's overrated! There are tons of talented people out there that can do all those things and they are probably all trying to be on Glee.

Mindy Kaling is the smart, funny, cool girl version of a triple threat as a talented actor, writer, and producer. Although she has had some small parts in big movies (No Strings Attached, Five Year Engagement), she got her "big break" in the industry as a writer on this little show called The Office.  Many people who watch the show might know her as Kelly Kapoor, the office's gossip and overall chatterbox, but she also is a writer, producer and sometimes director of the show as well.  As Kelly Kapoor, who was mainly a background character, Kaling was often a scene stealer in her 8 seasons on the show (I desperately hope she returns for this years final season to say goodbye).  More recently, Kaling can be seen on The Mindy Project, a new show on Fox that she created, stars in and often writes for. The Mindy Project is one of my favorite new shows, not only because Kaling is great in it but it shows a strong female lead that maybe doesn't know exactly what she's doing all the time but either way she is confident and extremely likable.

I 1000% think all girls should read her book.  She is honest, open and absolutely hysterical.  She talks about a lot of subjects that women might struggle with and writes in such a relatable tone.  After reading this book, I immediately wanted to be her friend as I do most of the funny women in Hollywood, i.e. Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Kristen Wiig, etc.  The thing that attracts me to these women is that they never apologize for being exactly who they are, flaws and all.  Obviously it's just a book and I don't know her personally but either way it gives me hope that maybe if I keep plugging away I can make it in the entertainment industry too, on my own terms.

The Mindy Project comes on Tuesdays on FOX at 9:30 after The New Girl.  Everyone should watch these two shows.

its jess

When it comes to television shows I have a lot of opinions.  They are characters I like, and some I don't like.  I am especially opinionated when it comes to premiere time.  I am overly skeptical of new pilots because I watch way too many shows to begin with, so it must be something spectacular to fit into my overpopulated TV week.  Along with being very strongly opinionated, I also admit when I am wrong.

After a post graduation induced summer hiatus, unemployment has forced me back blogging to talk about my favorite shows and to discuss everything and anything television.  My first post being back is to admit that I was wrong about The New Girl.  Many of my friends and family urged me to watch this show but as per usual I wanted to wait until season one was over. Then I could just catch up during the summer without having to wait in between episodes.  I stand by my decision to wait because it allows me to watch them faster but I do want to share my LOVE for this show and, in turn, urge everyone to get on board.

Not only does this show provide me with my own personal theme song but it also provides audiences with side splitting laughter.  Zooey Deschanel, while being slightly quirky in real life, was made for this part.  She absolutely murders it as Jess Day, the slightly awkward yet hilarious teacher with an always sunny disposition.  The antics of her 3 roommates, Schmidt, Nick and Winston only add to the constant hilarity of this show, which earned 5 Emmy nominations.  If you don't watch this show, seriously consider catching up on last season and season 2 during the holiday season!

Stay tuned for more on this years fall television season!
